Bernard E. Cromi,
age 90, of Canton, died Friday October 28, 2016 in Mercy Medical Center. Born in Detroit, he was the son of the late John & Mary (Vereb) Cromi and had lived in Canton most of his life. A graduate of Timken Vocational School, he served in the U.S. Army, worked at Macomber Inc, Steel Deck Institute where he retired and played professional baseball for a minor league baseball franchise. Bernie was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he was served as a Eucharistic Minister & usher, a member of Canton Council #341, K of C where he served as treasurer, the K of C Bowling League, the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, the N.E.O.H. Basketball Official's Assn and was an avid golfer. For 30 years he was a high school/college basketball official and was inducted into the Stark County Amateur Basketball Hall of Fame. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death his son: Bernard T. Cromi who died 2010; brother: Raymond Cromi and sister: Mary Zuzich. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy (Fusko) Cromi of the home; son: Richard (Patty) Cromi of N. Canton; daughter: Jane (Jerry) Perez of Providence, Rhode Island; sister: Jean (Gene) Barber of Canton; grandchildren: Ellen, Natalie and Marie. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 11:00 am in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Edward L. Beneleit as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 am in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his name to the St. Peter's Church Organ Fund.
