Charles F. Dornhecker, age 93, of Canton/North Canton, died Monday evening in St. Joseph Care Center following an extended illness. A life resident of Stark County he was the son of the late Charles F. and Mary (Langwald) Dornhecker. He was a graduate of McKinley High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, retired from Campbell Oil Company and was previously employed by Canton Hardware. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, North Canton, the Canton Moose Lodge #233, enjoyed football and loved music, having his own band called the Charlie Dornhecker Orchestra playing at the Moonlight Ballroom in Canton. His hobbies included gardening, model railroad trains and traveling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife: Eleanor Dornhecker who died in 1997; brother: Harold Dornhecker; sisters: Thelma Grandjean and Evelyn Studer. He is survived by wife: Dorothy (Meyers) Dornhecker; son: Tom (Trina) Dornhecker; daughters: Charlotte (Len) Bossart, Susan (Stephen) Criswell; grandchildren: Monica (Michael) Smith, Stephen (Jennifer) Bossart, Kristen Scheetz, Katie (Chad) Piper, Elise Criswell, Megan Criswell, Katie Criswell, Dan Dornhecker, Rachel Dornhecker; great-grandchildren: Carson, Harrison, Greyson, James, Lucie, Luke and Brady. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 10:00 am in St. Paul Catholic Church with Msgr. James A. Clarke as celebrant. Entombment will be in North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his name to St. Paul Catholic Church.
