Harold Peffer 1933-2017
Harold E. Peffer was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 following an extended illness. He never backed down from a problem and he met life’s challenges with a sense of humor. He loved his family and his faith, and he was an active member of Saint Peter Catholic Church in Canton. Harold overcame the adversity of his childhood by joining the United States Air Force where he was a Communications Specialist and Achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. He continued in communications and retired from AT&T after 35 years. In 1972 Harold and his wife Justine opened Peffer Gallery, which is now operated by his business partner and son David. He was a fiercely devoted father and friend, a lover of cats, and he truly enjoyed a good martini! He will be dearly missed. He is survived by son: David (Sandy) Peffer of Canton; daughter: Cynthia (Michael) Winick of Canton; sister: Shirley Peffer of Waco TX; grandchildren: Stephen (Elizabeth) Winick, Marcus Peffer, Eric Peffer, Kristen Peffer; great-grandchild: Elias Peffer; daughter-in-law: Kathy Peffer of Massillon and his dear friend Sandra Rossi. Preceded in death by his sons: Gregory Peffer, Harold A. Peffer and the mother of his children: Justine Peffer.
Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 10:00 am in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. John E. Sheridan as celebrant. Burial with military honors will take place in North Lawn Cemetery.
Following the internment, his family invites relatives and friends to share stories and refreshments with them in the atrium at the Canton Muesum of Art. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to his second family – The Canton Museum of Art. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
