Janet I. Powell,

age 72, of Canton, died Thursday following an extended illness. A life resident of Canton she was the daughter of the late Martin & Mabel Rooney. She was a graduate of Lehman High School, Malone College, Walsh College and retired from Aultman Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a beloved mother, sister, daughter, life long learner and a hard worker with a strong spirit. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son: Keith Powell and sister: JoAnn Scanlon. She is survived by her son: Christopher Powell of Canton; daughter: Lisa (Alexander Tripney) Clarke of N. Canton; brothers: Daniel (Betsy) Rooney, Michael (Cindy) Rooney; sisters: Retta (Ronnie) Maynard, Nancy (Richard) Biggerstaff, Judy (John) Vaught, Mary Ann (Don) Harry, Susan Rooney; grandchildren: Celeste Powell, Aiden Powell; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 am in the Wackerly Funeral Home with Msgr. Frank A. Carfagna officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her name to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
