ANNE LOUISE HAREN


Anne Louise Haren, 70, of Canton passed away unexpectedly from complications of the flu on Sunday, February 25. Born to the late Sylvester “Fritz” and Louise (Obrovac) Haren, Anne was a graduate of St. Benedict Elementary School, McKinley High School and Walsh University.

In her younger days, Anne played the piano beautifully and worked as a part-time organist at St. Benedict's Church in Canton. Her nearly fifty years of teaching in Catholic and public schools in the Akron-Canton area earned her a reputation as an outstanding elementary school teacher and a steadfast member of the teachers union. At the time of her death, she was still working as a substitute teacher in various schools in the Akron area.

Anne was a devoted daughter, having cared for her mother until her death in 2009. She enjoyed spending time with family, hosting many a holiday meal and sharing her dry sense of humor. She also loved chatting with fellow dog walkers and keeping in touch with co-workers and friends.

Anne maintained a lifelong devotion to the welfare of animals, having rescued dozens of dogs and cats through the years, in addition to supporting several animal rights organizations. Her other passions included gardening, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Gordon Lightfoot, and the Rolling Stones. She was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.

Anne is survived by her sister Marie, her brother Vincent, aunts Mary Rose Haren and Gertrude Ungashick, numerous cousins, her dog Alice and her cat Sadie. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Mark, Blaise, and Nicholas.
 

A private service and burial for the family will take place in Calvary Cemetery today. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
