Ruthie “Ruth” Jo Olenski, 68, of North Canton passed away on Wednesday, October 17th, 2018 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center following an extended illness.

Ruth was born on January 26th, 1950 in Bassett, NE, a daughter of the late Raymond and Carol (Hale) Westover. She was a graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School in 1968 and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Kearney State University in 1972. On August 5, 1972, she married Michael Olenski in Lincoln, NE and they moved to North Canton where they raised their daughter Elizabeth. Ruth was an inspired and dedicated teacher for Plain Local Schools for 32 years with classrooms at Warstler Elementary, Barr Elementary, and Middlebranch Middle School. Ruth had a passion for reading, shopping, and sports, especially Nebraska Cornhuskers football. She loved being a grandmother and was proud to show off and spoil her pride and joy, her granddaughter Ella. Ruth will be remembered for her unwavering sense of humor and her infectious laugh.

Ruth was preceded in death by her brother Steven. She is survived by her loving husband of over 48 years Michael, daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Crayton Jirovsky of Lincoln, NE; sister Karen Westover of Lincoln, NE; brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Leslie Westover, of Lincoln, NE; and her granddaughter Ella Jirovsky. In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to honor Ruth’s memory may make memorial contributions to The American Lung Association at 1200 Hosford Street, Suite 101 Hudson, WI 54016-9316 or The Plain Local Schools Foundation at 1801 Schneider Rd. NE Canton OH 44721. Those who wish to gather in a celebration of Ruth’s life are welcome to join the family at a later date.
