Susan Jude (Moriarty) Schibler, 68, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day at the Cleveland Clinic on November 23, 2017. 

 

She was born on January 6th, 1949 in Canton, Ohio to Dennis Joseph Moriarty Sr. and Merlyn Renner Moriarty. The 3rd oldest of the Moriarty children, She attended St. John’s elementary school and was a graduate of the 1967 class of Central Catholic High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the School of Nursing at Kent University in 1972. 

 

On September 14,1973 she married John Joseph Schibler at St. John’s in Canton, Ohio. Together they had Kathryn (Katie) Ann and Jordan Michael Schibler. As a couple they loved to travel, golf and play cards. They moved from Ohio to East Greenwich, Rhode Island in 1989 where Sue continued her nursing career working at Woman’s and Infants Hospital in Providence. At the age of 52, she achieved a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Nurse Paralegal from Roger Williams University and went on to become a nurse paralegal until she retired in 2016 from RHBG, LLP in Providence, RI.

 

A dedicated volunteer, she served on the board of several non-profits including the Board of Education of the Diocese of Youngstown and Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, RI. She was an avid reader, a known prankster, storyteller, lover of history and an artist of countless crafts including one of a kind cards. She loved to spend time surrounded by family and friends, always opening her heart and her home to welcome friends and strangers alike. She had an uncanny ability to make people laugh, a generous heart and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. 

 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Dr. John Schibler of North Kingstown, RI; daughter Katie Conn (Robert Michael) of Exeter, RI; son Jordan (Danielle) of New York City; siblings Dennis Joseph Jr.(Karen), Kathryn Raftery (John), Timothy Keane, Kevin Patrick, Stephanie Nist (Joseph), James Francis (Terri), Thomas Anthony (Cheryl), Sean Michael (Jo Ann), David Brendan (My Huong), and Brian Joseph; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews cousins, and her adoring granddaughter Madelyn Conn. 

 

Sue is preceded in death by four infant brothers and her parents Dennis Joseph Sr and Merlyn Renner Moriarty.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Tuesday November 28th at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist at 627 McKinley Ave, NW  in Canton, Ohio with the Very Reverend John E. Sheridan, STL, Rector. Burial for the family will be in St. John's Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. A Celebration of Sue’s life will be held in Rhode Island, date to be announced. To celebrate the vibrant spirit of Susan, the family encourages attendees to consider wearing bright colors for the services. 

 

To honor her love of education, the family requests donations to be directed to either Central Catholic High School in Canton, Ohio or Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, RI.
