Athene Curtis
Age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, died Friday, April 29th following a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. A life resident of Canton she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Shagovac) Pollos. She graduated in 1950 from Canton Lincoln High School. She married John Curtis on June 1st, 1952. She retired from Sugardale Meats in 1988 and following retirement worked at the Canton Repository. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and St. Peter’s Ladies Guild/Women’s Club. She is survived by her daughter: Kathleen (John) Nicholas of Canton; grandchildren: Mary Spotz (Kevin) and Michael Nicholas, great-grandchildren Mya and Nicholas Spotz, sister-in-law Sophia Orphan, nieces Jana Kittredge (Scott), Jerrilyn Ewing (Rick), Anna Orphan (Scott Woodward) and Stephanie Orphan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John Curtis; brother: Sam Pollos, sister-in-law Marian Pollos, brother-in-law Harry Orphan and nephew Nick Orphan. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Herman, Dr. Mitchell Haut and his nurse practitioner Michelle, Dr. Elizabeth Baum, Abbey Baum-Beigie CNP, the entire Baum family and the staff at Bethany Nursing Home for their excellent and compassionate care. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Peter Catholic Church on Thursday May 12, 2022 at 10:00 am with the Very Reverend John E. Sheridan as celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery Mausoleum. Donations may be made in her name to St. Peter Catholic Church or the Stark County Humane Society. Celebration of life will be May 6 at noon at the home of her daughter's 5130 Seaview Circle NW Canton. Personal condolences are invited on line at www.wackerlyfuneralhome.com.
