Bonnie McDowell
Age 72, died Wednesday June 12, 2025, following a brief illness. A life resident of Stark County she was the daughter of the late, Nicholas & Martha (Ferrell) Davala. She was a 1971 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1975 graduate of Walsh College where she earned a degree in Education. She worked as an elementary teacher at St. Peter’s School, Canton retiring in 2016 following 40 years of service. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church where she served as a lector and the College Club of Canton where she enjoyed lots of activities with her teacher friends. Bonnie’s favorite thing was spending time with her family and especially her grandson Colton. She is survived by her daughter, Mollie (John) Stanko of Medina; brothers: Tony (Kathie) Davala of Columbus, John Davala of Louisville, Steve (Jody) Davala of Magnolia, Vince Davala of Canton, Stan (Denise) Davala of Carollton; sister, Mary Millward of Canton; brother-in-law, Joe Soehnlen of Canton and grandson, Colton Stanko. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James McDowell who died in 2017; sisters: Sr. Regina Davala SND, Pam Soehnlen and sister-in-law, Kathy Davala. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Witmer as celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her name to the College Club of Canton Scholarship Fund.
