Charles Aloysius Maurer, III
July 18, 1944 - August 4, 2025
Charles Maurer (Charlie), a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, died at home, in Grove City OH on Aug 4, 2025, after a long battle with cancer at the age of 81. He was born July 18, 1944, in Chicago, IL, to the late Charles A. Maurer, Jr., and the late Annette (Lang) Maurer. He lived most of his life in Canton, Ohio, where he received his education, graduating from Walsh College. He worked in electronics until his retirement. Charlie entered the Air Force in 1966 where he achieved the rank of sergeant. He served as a radar technician, serving his last tour in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star, the National Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and an honorable discharge in 1970. Upon his receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal, it was said “The energetic application of his knowledge played a significant role in contributing to the success and effectiveness of the Air Force mission in Southeast Asia.” Charlie will be greatly missed by family and friends. His siblings include Margaret Maurer (Carl Peterson), the late Michael Maurer (June), Catherine Maurer Baack (James), Theresa Rosenhamer (Donald) and Martin Maurer. He also leaves five nieces and two nephews as well as three great nieces and two great nephews. A service for Charlie with Military Honors will take place on Monday August 25, 2025, at 1:15 pm in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Ohio where he will be laid to rest.
