Harry W Shaw III “Skip”
Our Skip passed away at 2:57AM at Aultman Compassionate Care Center on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 after a long battle with a herniated lung and Parkinson’s Disease. He was born to his parents, Pete & Norma Shaw on Feb 2, 1959. And he sure was proud to be a groundhog! Skip graduated from Central Catholic High School and Akron Barber College. He owned & operated Skip’s Greentown Barber Shop for many years. He then moved on to his true calling to be a golf teaching professional. Skip was very proud to achieve his Masters Teaching Certification designation from the USGTF. He truly loved the game of golf and enjoyed passing his golf knowledge on to his students. It was a sad day when he could no longer swing a golf club due to his lung injury. Skip was a self-taught whittler and made many gorgeous walking sticks. He and his wife enjoyed many years traveling across the country in their motorhome. Folks would gather outside his rig to talk to him while he was working on his latest cane. Skip was always known to have a big smile on his face and a joke at the ready. And he may have been known to tell a few tall tales! If he was your friend, he was your friend for life. The greatest joy in his life was his family. Being surrounded by his wife, kids and grandkids was what made him happiest. Toward the end Skip said, “I can’t leave yet, I have more bad stuff to teach them!”Preceded in death by his mother, sisters Natalie Bonsky and Marilyn Define. Left behind to miss him everyday is his wife, Maryanne, daughter Marcy (Greg) Nelson of Atlantic Beach, FL, sons David (Karrie) DeWalt of North Canton and Nick (Hallie) DeWalt of Uniontown, 7 grandchildren: Clayton, Grace, Ruby, Brady, Layla, Eva and Nico, 1 great-grandson, Silas. Also survived by his dad, Pete. Special thanks to Skip’s Hospice Nurse, Michelle, his Hospice Care Dr, Jeffrey Marsh. Your kindness and caring throughout these long months meant more to me than I can ever express. Funeral Mass l will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11AM at Little Flower Catholic Church, 2040 Diamond St NE, Canton 44721 with Very Reverend Canon Christopher Henyk as celebrant with calling hours beginning at 9:30AM until the start of the Mass.
