James R. (Jim) Evans, age 82, passed away on February 8, 2025, at Aultman Hospital. Jim was born to the late Raymond and Harriet (Sloe) Evans and was preceded in death by his sister, Barb Shankel, brother, Barry, his aunt, Ruth Sloe and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and June Schott. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Schott) Evans and son, Matthew, his brothers Greg (Janice), Rick (Tami), brother-in-law Dean (Sandy Hausman) Schott, and sister-in-law, Mary (Phil) Rohr and many nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1960 and was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Army. He was employed by General Electric Credit, Republic Engineered Steel and retired from Bridgestone. He was a volunteer with the Hall of Fame Transportation Committee for over 35 years, serving as Chairman for 13 years; member of the HOF Luncheon Club, GlenOak Kick-off Club and the Wednesday Night Men’s Club. Jim never met a stranger and was a good friend to everyone. He was known in the neighborhood as “The Mayor”. Jim will be deeply missed by all those who loved him. Funeral services will be on Friday February 14, 2025, at 10:00 am in the Wackerly Funeral Home with Fr. Daniel Finnerty officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 4 to 7 pm in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
