John M. Gabl
Age 92, passed away on Tuesday, Sept 5, 2023. He was born in Cleveland and had been a resident of Canton since 1965. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University. He received his Master of Science Degree from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. John was executive vice president of Schauer Insurance and retired after 36 years of service. He was president and served on the board several local organizations including Canton Independent Insurance Agents, The Better Business Bureau, Northeast Community Center and Pathway. He was active many years with United Way of Stark County and volunteered for Westbrook Park Meals on Wheels for 14 years. He was also a supporter of the Blood Donor Program at both Mercy Medical Center and Aultman Hospital, having donated over nine gallons of blood. John enjoyed golf and was an avid gardener. He also loved fishing, reading and jigsaw puzzles. He was preceded in death by his parents John & Mary (Schmidt) Gabl; former wife Mary Lou Gabl; sisters Marie (Henry) Joyce, Ruth (Roy) Kasch, Bernice (Al) Timke; sister-in-law Faith (Larry) Wackerly, brother-in-law Leo Russo and nephew Dr. Gabriel Russo. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Mary (Russo) Gabl, brother-in-law Tony (Esther) Russo, sister-in-law Angela (Michael) Chapanar, several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Benson Opkara as celebrant on Friday, Sept. 8th at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Pathway Caring for Children, 4895 Dressler Rd NW, Canton, OH 44718. John was very kind & caring man with a quick wit & a wonderful sense of humor.
