Karl E. Schank, age 84, died Tuesday following a brief illness. A life resident of Canton he was a 1956 graduate of Timken Vocational High School where he received a certificate in Auto Shop and the Jaguar Mechanic School of New York. Karl was always known as a gear head and very talented engine builder. He was owner operator of Northeast Machine in Canton; member of Westbrook United Methodist Church, was a talented artist and enjoyed automobile racing at Canton Motor Speedway and Magnolia Speedway. He is survived by his sons: James (Patsy Poulton) Schank of Massillon, Joseph (Gena) Schank of Canton, Jeffery (Sandra) Schank of Massillon; daughter: Rebecca (Robert) Saffell of Canton; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother: Gary Schank, sister: Peggy Dewberry; great-grandson: Andrew Schank and former wife: Gail Schank. A private funeral service for the family will be held in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Karl on Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Zion Temple Church of God, 1103 7th Street NE, Canton, Ohio 44704.The family would like to give a special thank you to Aultman Hospital and Jackson Ridge Rehabilitation & Care for their wonderful compassionate care.
