Lorraine K. Cook,

Age 76, of North Canton and formerly of Sharon Center OH., died Sunday following a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Born in Youngstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Weigand) Warner and grew up in the Canton area. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Kent State University and taught at Kent State University School following graduation. She had earlier attended Walsh College and taught at St. Louis School. She retired from IBM and then worked as a substitute teacher for the Highland School District in Medina County. She was a Master Gardener, longtime member of Medina County Herb Society, and a devoted advocate of Medina Creative Housing. An artist at heart, her botanical knowledge and love of nature fed her soul and displayed itself abundantly. She is survived by her son: Preston J. Cook of Medina; daughter: Melissa J. Cook of Chicago, IL; brother: Marc (Gay) Warner of Canton; sisters: Lynne Dragomier of North Canton, Marsha (Rodney) McGregor of Hudson, OH.; brother-in-law: Dennis Cook of Lorain, OH.; nieces and nephews: John Warner, Michael J. Dragomier, Matthew Dragomier, Drew McGregor, Kate McGregor, Robert Smith, Miranda Smith, Kevin Cook, Lisa Kirkpatrick, Dawn Morse; many beloved extended family members and precious friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Preston H. Cook who died in 2014; brother-in-law: Michael L. Dragomier and sister-in-law: Ruth Cook. Lorraine expressed that her goal in life was to make each person she encountered feel better about themselves. So many people have been touched and inspired by her interest in their stories and respect for their dignity, by her quiet wisdom and keen intellect, her courage and her warm, loving presence with them. She will be deeply missed. A private funeral service for the family will be held in the Wackerly Funeral Home with Msgr. Lewis F. Gaetano officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Township Cemetery, Wadsworth, OH. A public celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
