Mary K. Tomic
Age 89, of Canton passed away March 17, 2021. Born in Canton on December 8, 1931 she was the daughter of the late: Anna (Stiglich) Tomic & Andrew Tomic; sister to the late: Stephen Tomic, Anna Gerzina, Andrew Tomic and John Tomic. She was a graduate of Timken High School, received her Bachelors and Masters from Central Michigan University in Virginia. She began her career as a secretary at the Canton Law Firm of Black McCuskey, Souers & Arbaugh. In her early 20’s she made a career change and moved to Washington, DC to take a position with the United States Government. She had a career that spanned 32 years which involved positions in the American Embassy in Germany, U.S. Capitol, and the Pentagon working for the Department of Defense. After retirement she volunteered at the National Archives in Washington for over 15 years assisting with research of the WWII German occupation of Eastern Europe. In 2007 she returned to Canton and became an active volunteer for the Friends of the Stark County Library and the Stark County Prosecutors Office. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. She is survived by 7 nephews, 4 nieces and their extended families. She will be missed by her family and many friends she made over the years. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. Peter Catholic Church with the Very Reverend John E. Sheridan as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Peter Church. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
