Richard L Pike

Richard (Dick) Lewis Pike age (82) went home to be with his precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 20th, 2022 peacefully surrounded by his children. 

Dick was born in Madison, OH on June 12, 1940 to Walter and Shirley Pike. He graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, OH and went on to attend Bowling Green University where he met the love of his life, Jo Ellen (Petry). They married on May 5th, 1962 and spent 58 wonderful years together, raising their three children, Thomas, Joseph and Mary Jo, working for The Hoover Company, and serving their community. In 1998 Dick retired from Hoover proudly after 34 years of service. He spent his retirement years enjoying traveling with Jo Ellen and their friends, sharing jokes with all who would listen, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, parents; infant brother, Walter Lee; step mother, Ida Pike; father and mother in-law (Leonard and Doris Petry); and brother-in-law Vasile “Charlie” Barsan, step sister/brother in law, Jean (Howard) McKitrick. Dick is survived by his sons, Thomas Pike of North Canton, OH, Joseph (Sally) Pike of Sanford, NC, daughter, Mary Jo (Mark) Hetrick of Ankeny, IA; six grandchildren:  Megan, Lauren, Kelsey, Joshua, Samantha, and Tommy; seven great grandchildren, and sister Mabel Barsan (Avon, OH).  Also surviving are his brothers in law, Thomas (Barbara) Petry and Timothy (Victoria) Petry both of Canton, Ohio, step brother, Robert (Nancy) Harold of Perrysburg, OH.

As many may know, in 1997 Dick suffered a massive heart attack. At that time, it was not known how long he would live. But we are grateful to the many nurses and doctors, especially Dr. Terry Gordon for 25 more years with our dad, grandpa, and friend - as well as Dr. Howard Metzger who continued to care for him throughout his extended illness.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the Servant Parish Church (formally known as Our Lady of Peace) on Monday July 25 at 10:00 am with Fr. Scott Kopp as celebrant. The family will receive friends at Wackerly Funeral Home at 1375 Market Ave. N., Canton, OH on Sunday July 24 from 3 to 5 p.m.  Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Dick’s honor to The American Heart Association.
