Steve Becherer, age 46, died Tuesday from a battle with cancer. Steve was born and raised in Canton, Ohio and he attended St. Peter Catholic School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School where he played football, basketball, baseball and wrestled. Steve graduated from The Ohio State University and made Columbus, Ohio his home working at Columbus State Community College in the Chemistry Lab and was also an adjunct professor. Steve was that person who gave the shirt off his back. He also loved to travel and took great delight in going to Las Vegas where he was known to many as “the king”. Steve enjoyed life, lived it to the fullest, cherished spending time with his family and friends, and last but not least adored his beloved dogs. Survived by his mother Paula, brothers Dan (wife-Chrystie), Dave (wife-Erica), sister Mary (husband-Sam Chalton), nieces Baylee, Avery, Quinn, Vivienne, and nephews Sam and Dan. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel Becherer. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 1:00 pm in St. Peter Catholic Church with Very Reverend John E. Sheridan STL as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
