Sue Ann Evans (Rawls)
September 22, 1939 – February 8, 2025
Sue Ann Evans, a trailblazing entrepreneur, caring mother, and beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in Canton, Ohio, surrounded by family. Born on September 22, 1939, in Lima, Ohio, Sue built a life marked by resilience and determination. She was a pioneer in business, starting her first company at a time when women were not legally allowed to sign for loans without a male co-signer. Never one to be deterred by obstacles, she went on to found Evans Industries in the late 1970s, serving as President until 2020. Her leadership and dedication helped shape the company into what it is today. Beyond her work, Sue had a passion for giving back. She volunteered as a cook at the Ronald McDonald House at Akron Children’s Hospital for many years. She also loved gardening, knitting, and playing bridge with friends. Above all, she valued her family and pets, always offering warmth and wisdom. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Vaughn Rawls and Zola Roebuck, and her brother, James Lee. She is survived by her children, Bevan Evans, Mary Beth (Jim) Miller, Bill (Monica) Evans, and Brad (Kristen) Evans; her grandchildren, Rachel Ebert and husband Lucas Versage, Dan Ebert and wife Erin Diroll, Emma Evans and husband Dan McClary, Meredith Evans, Kari Evans, Ellie Evans, Tyler Miller, and Nathan Miller; and her great-grandchildren, Carter and Olivia Versage and Benjamin Ebert. She is also survived by her long-time caregiver, Deb Shoupe, whose kindness and dedication meant so much to her and the family. She will be missed and remembered for her strength, kindness, and dedication. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House at Akron Children’s Hospital in Sue’s honor.
