Thomas M. McCallin,
Age 77 of Plain Township, passed away Friday February 19, 2021 in his home following an extended illness. Born in Canton he was the son of the late John & Freda (Koehn) McCallin, was a graduate of Timken High School class of 1961 and Stark State College. He retired in 2011 from the Plain Township Fire Department where he was a State of Ohio Certified Arson Investigator. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church where he served on Parish Council, Plain Township Local Firefighters I.A.F.F. 2967, Ohio Chapter of Arson Investigation where he was named 1997 investigator of the year, International Association of Arson Investigation and a 20-year member of Safe Kids of Stark County. Tom is survived by his wife of almost fifty years: Rebecca (Hoobler) McCallin of the home; sons: Timothy (Suzanne) McCallin of Castro Valley CA, Christopher (Scott) McCallin of Raleigh NC; daughter: Megan McCallin of Akron; grandchildren: Luke, Rylee, Michael, Lily and Olivia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: James, Patrick, John; sister: Winiferd Shilling and grandchild Sarah Grace. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday February 26, at 12 noon in Little Flower Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Canon Christopher Henyk as celebrant. Burial will be in Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call Friday morning from 10:00 am to 12 noon in the church. The Plain Township Fire Department will provide a Last Alarm Service following the committal at Warstler Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Clifford Johnson for his care and concern for Tom over the years, Aultman Hospice and Tom’s special care giver Jane.
