Wasyl Soduk Obituary

Wasyl Soduk, age 98, passed away in his home on October 22, 2021. Wasyl was born May 10, 1923 in Monastyrets’, Ukraine, son of the late Rozalia Yakiv and Konstantine Soduk. During World War II Wasyl was taken to a forced labor camp, and after his release he met Anna (Czyzyk) Soduk, his wife of over 60 years. They married on December 16, 1949, and in 1951 the pair came to Canton, OH via Bad Kreuchnach, Germany with the help of the Red Cross. After immigrating to Canton, Wasyl worked for Wean United Engineering until his retirement in 1991. He was very proud to have become a naturalized American Citizen.

In retirement Wasyl enjoyed being with his family and friends, working in his garden, and vacationing with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canton for over 50 years, where he maintained connections with his Ukrainian-born friends. He will be remembered as a very hard worker, a natural gardener, and a loving and playful grandfather (Dido).

Wasyl is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Soduk; parents: Rozalia Yakiv and Konstantine Soduk; one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his brother, Mykola Soduk, and two sisters; his three children: Marie (Thomas) Trebonik, Dr. Walter (Julie) Soduk, and Olga (James) Kotagides; five grandchildren: Alex (Meredith) Soduk, Alexis (Jonathan) Chung, Marianne Soduk, Stephanie (Jeff) Fowler, Nicholas (Chrissy) Trebonik, Jamie Cole, and Jodie (Steve) Spalding; and eight great grandchildren.

A private funeral service will be held at St. George Romanian Byzantine Catholic Cathedral in Canton with Fr. Vsevolod Shevchuk officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
