Welcome to the memorial page for

Michael I Piero

December 30, 1967 ~ July 22, 2016 (age 48) 48 Years Old

Michael I. Piero, age 48, of Fremont, OH, passed away suddenly Friday morning. Mike was a 22 year loyal employee of the Fremont Recreation Center where he served its youth with passion, dedication, and his own unique sense of humor. Mike was a devoted son and brother who loved and supported his family unconditionally. Adored by his nieces and nephews, he was always counted on to join in on the fun and games, especially if it involved a prank. Mike was a wonderful role model for the hundreds of children he coached and inspired. Mike was especially fond of working with the Special Olympics serving as a member of the Special Olympics Committee and working with the School of Hope. Mike graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1986 and received his B.S. in Physical Education from The Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Ohio University. He was the recreation coordinator for the City of Fremont Recreation and Parks Department and member of the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association, Ohio Recreational Sports Association, Ohio Parks & Recreation Association, Tiffin Area Basketball Association, Fremont Football Association and OHSAA where was a long time football and basketball referee. Mike recently received the inaugural City of Fremont Employee of the Month Award which is now being named in his honor. Our loss is immeasurable and our hearts are irretrievably broken, but it is our hope that his legacy will live on in the lives of the children with whom he had instilled a passion and love of sports. He is survived by his parents David and Judith (Dowling) Piero of Canton; brothers: David (Debra) Piero Jr of N. Canton, Patrick Piero of Avon Lake, OH; sisters: Anne (Robert) Silagy of N. Canton, Kathleen Piero of Canton; nephews: David Piero, Daniel Piero, Bobby Silagy, Michael Silagy; nieces: Kristan (Bill) Preston, Kelly Piero, Alisha Silagy, Kara (Andrew) Bendle; great nephew: William Preston III and great niece: Olivia Finelli. Mass of Christian burial will held Wednesday at 11:00 am at Christ the Servant Catholic Parish with Fr. Thomas P. Dyer as celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
